Portlandia Activity Book - IFC

 

To promote the second season of IFC’s hit comedy series Portlandia, I looked back to my youth of playing on Denny’s placemats. I subsequently launched the retro Portlandia Activity Book, a multifaceted digital experience designed to engage the fan community and highlight favorite characters and themes. The Activity Book featured such content as an interactive 1980’s-like sticker book, a hipster avatar generator, mazes, crossword puzzles, and quizzes of varying skill levels, each approved by the series’ stars Fred Armison and Carrie Brownstein.

I also integrated a reward system where visitors, upon completing various tasks, could receive show-centric badges and redeem points for real-world prizes, thus incentivizing engagement. To further encourage participation, I included a leaderboard so users could see where they stacked up against other fans. To build the product, I hired a creative agency and oversaw development.
